Comparison of Soil Stress Gage with Performance Based Results Using the Heavy Vehicle Simulator
Abstract: The recently developed Soil Stiffness Gage (SSG) can measure the rigidity of soil, rather than the density of soil (which other methods, such as LBR, measure). The objective of this project is to utilize the Heavy Vehicle Simulator and test pits, located at the FDOT State Materials Office, in conjunction with the SSG to develop a statistically valid procedure for use of the new technology. This study should result in a noticeable improvement over the current procedure for use of the SSG.
