Application Deadlines

line

NOTE: Beginning the Spring 2012 semester, all application materials must be submitted electronically for admissions consideration. This includes all supporting documents. So, the admission application, letters of recommendation and statement of purpose should be submitted through the application process listed below. Transcripts and test scores should still be sent via post (or electronically if available) directly to the UF Office of Admissions and then the department will retrieve them electronically through the Admissions system.

International Students (admissions and funding consideration)

September 30th for SPRING
January 30th for FALL

ALL Application documents MUST be received by the posted deadlines for the semester for which the student is applying. If the documents are not received, the student will be asked to defer his/her application to a future semester. These deadlines are set because all I-20 requests must be made by our department three months prior to the start of each term in order for the admitted student to have enough time to obtain a visa.

Domestic Students (Degree seeking & Post Baccalaureate/Non-degree seeking)

FOR ALL DOMESTIC APPLICANTS: ALL Application documents MUST be received no later than one month prior to the beginning of the semester for which the student is applying. If the documents are not received, the student will be asked to defer his/her application to a future semester. Keep in mind that test scores and FE verifications must be requested early enough in advance by the applicant to the agency in order for the scores/verification to reach our office by this deadline.

NOTE: For funding consideration, all applicants must submit the admissions application and all supporting documents by the International Student applicant's deadlines posted above. Funding is awarded based on availability of project funds and by each individual faculty member's review of each applicant's credentials. Therefore if the applicant's skills and background seem to suit the faculty member's project needs, the applicant will be considered for funding. No other individuals in the department process funding information - it is completed on a case by case basis by the faculty.

UNIVERSITY OF FLORIDA GENERAL ADMISSIONS REQUIREMENTS

The following documents are to be submitted directly to the University of Florida, Office of Admissions, 201 Criser Hall, P.O. Box 114400, Gainesville, FL 32611. Do not send these documents to the Department of Civil and Coastal Engineering as it will delay your application from being processed in a timely manner.

1. Application/Statement of Purpose/Letters of Recommendation:
The Department of Civil and Coastal Engineering requires that the University of Florida application for admissions be completed on-line at www.admissions.ufl.edu. Applicant's are encouraged to submit the application before submitting any other supporting documents to the university as it leads to processing of all materials much easier. Also, when applying to the CCE department, please be certain to add a specialization to the application in the appropriate area. The department's specializations are listed on this website under the Academic Specialties link on the homepage. We do not offer an on-campus "General Civil" degree - our UFEDGE program is as close as we can get to a general Civil degree and this is our distance program. Please note that all application fees must be paid before the department will process your application. Understand that there are time periods when the UF Office of Admissions is overwhlemed with applications and supporting materials so it may take a longer period of time for your materials to be reflected as received.

An applicant is required to also submit his/her statement of purpose (or letter of intent) and the names and e-mail addresses of three individuals who will be submitting a letter of recommendation on the student applicant's behalf within the on-line application system. We only accept electronic submissions of all of these documents.

2. Transcripts: (A minimum 3.0 grade point average is required for admissions for ALL applicants)
The applicant is required to send in official transcripts from all previous colleges and
universities that he/she has attended. These transcripts should be sent directly to the
University of Florida, Office of Admissions, 201 Criser Hall, P.O. Box 114400,
Gainesville, FL 32611.

INTERNATIONAL APPLICANTS: If you are an international student, you must submit transcripts in the original language with a certified English translation and a copy of the degree/diploma in the original language with a certified English translation.

3. Test Scores: (GRE/TOEFL Test School Code for UF is 5812 the department code is not needed.) NOTE: Applicants for spring 2012 should take the GRE no later than July 31. The GRE is changing format beginning in August 2011 and those scores will not be available until November, which is well past our September 30th deadline.

ALL APPLICANTS:
GRE scores are required with the exception of one particular situation. If the applicant
holds a Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) certificate and he/she will be obtaining a nonthesis
Masters degree, the applicant can request a verification from the PE Board of the
state where the FE certificate was obtained to use for admissions purposes. This verification should be sent directly to the UF Office of Admissions (not the department.) If the department receives GRE scores prior to receiving the FE, the GRE scores will be used for admissions consideration and not the FE. While the department does not consider admission solely on the GRE score, it does follow the Graduate School guideline of a 320 or higher verbal score for all applicants. If an applicant who previously graduate from UF with a bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering has participated in the department's 4/1 program, a GRE score of 1100 is required in order to transfer the coursework into the graduate degree program. Typically the average GRE score is 1100 or higher for a master's degree and a 1200 or higher for the PhD.
INTERNATIONAL APPLICANTS ONLY:
TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language), IELTS (International English Language
Testing System), MELAB (Michigan English Language Assessment Battery) or
successful completion of the University of Florida’s English Language Institute program
are required of all International students, unless the students native language is English or
the student has spent at least 1 academic year in a degree-seeking program at a college or
university in a country where English is the official language, if their attendance was in
the year immediately prior to UF admission.
The required scores are: TOEFL – paper=550, computer=213, (IBT) web=80
IELTS – 6
MELAB – 77
