I'll be happy to
discuss grades within 48hrs of returning HW/tests, after that discussion is
closed. However, knowledge is discussed anytime!
Goal: The Landfill Design course presents
geotechnical aspects related to the design of solid waste landfills. The course
teaches settlement analyses, slope stability, liner compaction, and leachate
collection systems as they relate designing a landfill. Computer software is
used to assist design scenarios.
Objectives: Students are expected to apply
geotechnical concepts and be able to use computer software pertinent to
landfill design. Upon completion, students will be able to: (1) size a
landfill, (2) be cognizant of regulations, (3) use software to design slopes,
estimate settlements, and estimate leachate quantities, (4) design liners, and
(5) design leachate systems.
Outcomes: This course requires students to apply
engineering principles to solve engineering problems towards the design of a landfill
system. As such, they will use modern tools (software), and understand the
ethical responsibilities of landfill design on society.
