Prerequisites: CES 4702 or similar
basic level course in analysis and design of reinforced concrete
using the ACI-318 Specification.
Objectives: To enable the student to
understand how prestressing affects the response of concrete
structural members, and to enable the student to develop the
technical background needed to design and analyze such members.

Analysis of beams for service load stresses
and strength
Design of beams
Bond and anchorage problems for prestressing
Shear and diagonal tension
Prestress losses with time
Short and long-term deflections
Composite beams
Continuous beams

Homework:
Homework will be assigned throughout the
semester, with a due date included at the top of the assignment
sheet. Homework is due in class on the date indicated. Homework
will be scored as a fraction of the total possible points
indicated on the assignment sheet. For each day that the
assignment is late, one point will be deducted.
Tests:
Tests will be take-home tests. The tests will be distributed and due on the dates shown below. Tests must be submitted in class on the due date. Make-up tests are given only in extraordinary circumstances, including medical and certain other excuses, as described by the instructor. Severe grade penalties, including grades of zero, are possible for not completing and submitting tests as listed below, without an acceptable excuse. Students with problems or questions relating to this matter are urged to consult with the instructor.
