These sections of Introduction to Engineering were designed to offer a better format for introducing potential engineering students to what engineering is all about. This course was developed as part of a research project funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF). NSF funded the SUCCEED educational coalition to study how to improve engineering education.

You will be meeting in smaller groups (20 students max.) at different locations each week throughout the engineering buildings. Each week, your section will visit a different engineering department for a two-or three-hour hands-on experimental laboratory class. You will also receive 1 ½ hour time management and student success workshop.

This class will be graded! The grade will be based on a combination of attendance and participation. Clearly, attendance is mandatory. You are allowed two missed classes. There are NO excused absences for any reason, only the allowed two. After that, each class drops a partial letter grade (B+, B, C+, C, D+, D, E). In addition, the extent of your participation in the individual labs will be judged. The combination of these will form the final grade. The class is still only one credit.

Look at the schedule on the back page to find where your section is to meet each week. The schedule gives the section number under each engineering discipline for all weeks of the semester. The meeting places for each of the labs will be at the following locations. Check the web page for any schedule updates/corrections or for lost schedules: http://www.ce.ufl.edu , use the left menu for course syllabi, then EGN 1002 syllabus.
