CGN 6905 - PROPERTIES AND EVALUATION OF PAVEMENT MATERIALS

Course Description

This course will focus on developing an understanding of how pavement material properties and characteristics affect the development of distress in asphalt pavement systems. Emphasis will be placed on understanding the interactions between pavement material properties, pavement structural characteristics, environment, and traffic loads and their effect on the development of stresses that lead to pavement distress.  Specific definitions and measurement methods for each of the key pavement material properties determined to affect pavement distress will be covered and their relevance discussed.  The relationship between pavement material characteristics and the key properties known to affect distress will also be addressed.

Laboratory tests will be demonstrated throughout the course of the semester.  Students will participate in performing the tests and analyzing the data.
